VodafoneThree has announced an investment of “millions of pounds” to roll out multi-brand retail stores across the UK, as research shows customers value in-person advice and support.
The mobile operator said it will open stores offering products and services from both brands under one roof following its May 2025 merger. It plans to maintain a presence in every town where it currently operates, the company added.
VodafoneThree said the move will create the largest retail footprint of any UK mobile network operator, supporting more than 4,500 jobs.
The retailer will also expand Three’s availability into more than 130 additional locations, increasing customer access to in-person advice and support. The company said it will transform stores into service hubs that combine device sales, technical support and repair services.
Research from the Centre for Retail Research indicates continued demand for physical stores, despite the growth of online shopping. The study found that 28.9 per cent of consumers rely on Vodafone and Three stores as their primary source of information on new phone models, ahead of social media and online articles.
The research also highlighted the economic impact of the stores. Spending linked to visits to Vodafone and Three outlets and nearby retailers generates an estimated £168.5 million annually for the UK economy alongside an additional £61.2 million for local hospitality businesses, according to the Centre’s research. One in five store visits come from shoppers who would not otherwise visit the high street, helping drive footfall.
VodafoneThree said it will reposition stores as support-led hubs. The company plans to expand services such as device setup, file transfer assistance and repairs to more of its stores after more than half of respondents taking part in the research said technical advice from in-store staff reduces stress, while 68.7 per cent support phone repair services alongside retail offerings.
The transformation will include flagship locations in major cities, with initial sites planned for London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham and Cardiff.
The rollout forms part of VodafoneThree’s broader strategy to strengthen its presence on the UK high street and support local economies while offering customers hands-on experiences with new devices and services.
“We know how important stores like ours are to the health of the high street and the communities which rely on them,” said Jon Shaw, consumer operations director at VodafoneThree. “From shopping devices, seeking support from our experts or getting their phone repaired, we are proud to serve our customers where they are and reaffirm our commitment to the UK high street.
“The stores will help bring our brands to more people, offering customers more choice and greater value, as we build the UK’s best network.”
