Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) has appointed Neal Sample as executive vice president and chief information officer.
Sample joins WBA from Northwestern Mutual where he was CIO. During his time at the organisation, he implemented several automated and self-service options for clients.
Prior to this, Sample worked at Express Scripts where he launched a new product line and transitioned the organisation to the cloud.
Sample has over 20 years' experience in various companies in the healthcare, financial services and internet industries. He currently serves as chairman of the board at Wellfield Technologies as well as the chair of the board of trustees for the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis, Missouri.
The new WBA CIO will take up the role immediately and report to Tim Wentworth, who is chief executive of WBA.
Sample will serve as a member of the executive committee and on the IT governance committee. He will also lead and implement the company’s strategies for improving customer and patient experience at WBA.
“I am excited to welcome Neal to our executive leadership team and confident that as our CIO he will help take our IT capabilities to the next level using his strong background and experience in formulating modernisation plans, implementing technology solutions, accelerating growth and redefining standards of execution excellence,” said Wentworth. “He will be a key component to achieving our goals as we build on the company’s pharmacy strength and trusted brand to evolve healthcare delivery.”
