Amazon has opened a new ‘micromobility hub’ in Norwich housing a fleet of new electric cargo bikes.
The bikes will deliver thousands of packages a week to Amazon customers.
Norwich is joining the more than 40 cities in the UK and across Europe which have Amazon microbility hubs facilitating electric cargo bike and on-foot deliveries.
The move forms part of Amazon's £300 million investment to electrify and decarbonise Amazon’s UK transportation network.
The e-commerce giant said that electric cargo bikes and walkers are now expected to make millions of deliveries to Amazon customers across the UK every year.
“Our new electric cargo bikes are part of Amazon’s commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions across our operations by 2040, ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement," said Connor Ashford, senior delivery station manager, Amazon Norwich. "This is a proud moment for our team, and great news for customers across the city who will benefit from zero-emissions deliveries to their door."
Amazon announced the launch of its first UK micromobility hub featuring electric delivery vans, e-cargo bikes, and walkers in central London back in 2022.
In a partnership with the London Borough of Hackney, the fleet of e-cargo bikes and walkers directly replaced thousands of traditional van trips.
In May, Amazon opened its first micromobility hub in Northern Ireland to deliver packages to customers in Belfast via a fleet of electric cargo bikes.
