Instagram adds direct chat payments function

Instagram users can now buy products from small businesses directly in chats.

Without leaving the chat, a user can now discuss details about a product, such as optional customisations and colour options.

Once decided, a business can send a payment request for the purchased item which users will be able to complete using Meta Pay.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, said it wanted to help people start conversations with businesses they care about and help them find and buy products in an easy, seamless experience, right from the chat thread.

Users can also track their delivery in-chat while businesses will be able to confirm purchases, create payment requests and collect payment within the same thread.

When businesses are ready to set up their digital storefront, they can also use Shops on Instagram and Facebook, Meta said.
