Liverpool ONE has rolled out new AI technology to analyse and provide insights into footfall across the 2.5 million sq ft shopping centre.
Installed in partnership with technology company MRI Software, the AI-powered solution will enable Liverpool ONE to track and use real-time footfall data.
The technology expands on existing footfall data from multiple retail locations and the city centre itself.
Liverpool ONE said that the ability to tap into AI-driven data will change how it understands visitor behaviour and allow it to take data-backed decisions to shape its future growth.
“With footfall data and insights at our fingertips, we will better understand the needs of our visitors, optimise our operations, and continue to provide a meaningful contribution to the city of Liverpool,” said Iain Finlayson, estate director at Liverpool ONE. “The technology will not only improve our ability to adapt to market trends but also strengthen our position as a forward-thinking retail destination, ensuring we remain vibrant for years to come.”
MRI Software claims that high-profile events, such as the Labour Party conference in September, have the potential to drive footfall in Liverpool as much as seven per cent.
It estimates that the five-day conference brought over £30 million to the local economy as visitors descended on the city and spent money in local hotels, bars, restaurants and shops during their stay.
In August, the tech company said that the violent far-right, anti-immigration riots across the UK had negatively impacted footfall across UK High Streets.
According to its data, regional cities outside of London saw the biggest impact, particularly in the North & Yorkshire and the West Midlands.
