M&S Food lowers cost of 65 products

Marks and Spencer (M&S) Food is cutting the prices of around 65 items, including instant coffee, baked beans and rice, by an average of six per cent.

The retailer has also extended a price lock on over 100 popular products until after Easter, with sales of these items increasing by 28 per cent in the third quarter of 2023.

The move builds on the 200 price cuts that M&S announced in October, many of which were in the retailer’s value range.

“Our value and quality perception are at their highest point in six years compared to the market but we can’t be complacent,” said Alex Freudmann, managing director of M&S Food. “We need to keep our relentless focus on quality – making sure each and every product we offer has that M&S point of difference, from raising the bar on animal welfare to leading the way in responsible sourcing.

“All while, of course, offering that touch of M&S magic our 30 million customers know and love.”

Last week, Aldi announced it was lowering prices on around 40 items including tinned soup, pasta sauce and instant coffee by around 17 per cent.

Earlier this month, Asda announced it would be lowering the prices of around 287 products to regain market share from Lidl and Aldi. Prices were reduced by an average of 17 per cent and include products such as cheese, bread, breakfast cereals and rice.
