Mastercard scales Shop Anywhere platform with Zippin partnership

Mastercard is partnering with checkout-free technology platform Zippin to support the launch of its Shop Anywhere online stores.

The first of Mastercard’s Shop Anywhere stores will debut this summer in the US, Europe, and South America.

Zippin uses AI, deep learning, and sensor fusion technologies which will be integrated into the Shop Anywhere platform and can be deployed across a variety of locations including stadiums, convenience stores, shopping malls, and airports.

Customers can tap a credit card or scan a QR code to enter a Zippin-powered Shop Anywhere store. From there, Zippin’s AI software automatically identifies the items chosen, or put back, using sensors and overhead cameras, and creates a virtual shopping cart, the company said.

Pete Balsavias, senior vice president at Mastercard, commented: “Consumers are seeking out shopping experiences that bridge their physical and digital worlds, and prioritising technology that factors in safety and convenience.

“Mastercard is committed to delivering exceptional retail experiences at scale with our frictionless retail technology solutions, and we look forward to collaborating with Zippin to further that mission.”
