Sainsbury’s to hire 20,000 people for Christmas roles

Sainsbury’s is recruiting 20,000 people for seasonal roles at stores and warehouses across the country.

The retailer said that there are 2,000 positions available at Argos and 18,000 at Sainsbury’s.

Seasonal workers will be employed on fixed-term contracts ranging from three to 12 weeks.

Sainsbury’s said that there are a range of roles available in-store and across online fulfilment centres, as well as for home delivery.

To support its workers during the peak season, Sainsbury’s said it offers free food during shifts and a ten per cent discount at Sainsbury’s and Argos for eligible employees.

This discount rises to 15 per cent at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and at Argos on payday.

“Joining us during this busy time is a fantastic opportunity to meet great people and acquire skills that will stay with you long after the festive season,” said Prerana Issar, chief people officer at Sainsbury’s. “Our amazing store colleagues play a huge role in making Sainsbury’s the first choice for our customers, ensuring that good food is joyful, accessible and affordable however households choose to celebrate.”

Earlier this month Marks and Spencer (M&S) announced that it is recruiting 11,000 people for seasonal roles this Christmas, an increase of more than 10 per compared to last year.
