Shopify launches new POS device for merchants

Shopify has announced the launch of POS Go, a new piece of retail hardware which features a built-in barcode scanner.

Shopify said the new device is designed to give merchants the ability to deliver a “new kind of in-person shopping”.

The company added that the built-in barcode scanner enables merchants to start checkouts “anywhere in store”.

Through Shopify POS, retailers can view product information, customer notes and purchase history, and build carts in store and email them to customers to complete later.

The device also includes a built-in card reader which can accept tap, swipe, and chip cards.

The POS device also allows them to view sales, analytics, and inventory from all of their channels.

“Retail is evolving quickly and merchants need flexible solutions to help them succeed,” said Arpan Podduturi, vice president of product at Shopify. “More than ever, brick-and-mortar retailers need technology that keeps them nimble."

He added: “Offline retail is all the way back, and we’re investing heavily in hardware that’s fit for the fastest-growing, most innovative retailers in the world.”
