Toys R Us to expand US brick-and-mortar presence

Toys R Us parent company WHP Global has announced plans to expand its brick-and-mortar presence in the US.

In a partnership with Go! Retail Group, WHP said it would begin to roll out up to 24 Toys R Us flagship stores nationwide in the US beginning in 2024.

The group also plans to bring Toys R Us to the travel industry with a new retail experience for airports and cruise ships.

Toys R Us will open its first airport store in November at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport in Texas through a partnership with Duty Free Americas.

"The Toys R Us brand is growing fast and our expansion into air, land and sea is a testament to the brand's strength," said Yehuda Shmidman, chairman and chief executive of WHP Global. "Since acquiring Toys R Us, we have increased our global retail footprint by more than 50 per cent with openings in the United States, United Kingdom, India, Dubai, and Mexico.”

The chief exec added that the company now has over 1,400 stores and e-commerce sites across 31 countries as it heads into 2024.

WHP Global acquired a controlling stake in Toys R Us parent company Tru Kids following the brand’s collapse in 2017.

Since the business restructure in 2021, Toys R Us stores began opening inside Macy’s department stores across the US.
