WH Smith reports cyber attack

WH Smith has reported it has been the victim of a cyber security incident, which resulted in illegal access to company data.

The retailer said it launched an investigation as soon as it was aware of the incident and the data includes current and former company data.

WH Smith has notified the relevant authorities and affected staff as well as hiring specialist support services.

The company said there had been no impact on trading activities and the website, customer accounts and customer databases are on separate systems which are unaffected by the incident.

In a statement, WH Smith said: “WH Smith takes the issue of cyber security extremely seriously and investigations into the incident are ongoing. We are notifying all affected colleagues and have put measures in place to support them.”
