Walmart has announced that it is experimenting with generative AI (GenAI) to “make shopping easier and more convenient” for its customers.
The retailer said that it is exploring a feature that will allow shoppers to search by specific use cases. For example, users would be able to search ‘unicorn-themed birthday party’ instead of conducting individual searches for plates, party favours and decorations.
Additionally, Walmart said GenAI will be used to help customers make choices about products, such as finding age-appropriate technology or recommending products by highlighting certain features.
The company added that it is testing a feature that will enable customers to use their voice to have conversations with AI assistants and book delivery slots through its mobile app.
Other features that Walmart said it is experimenting with include an augmented reality room design service and setting up shop in virtual worlds.
Walmart said: “We’re constantly searching for ways to innovate and use emerging tech to make shopping easier and meet the needs of our customers. We’ll continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible. And as we do, we will always keep our customers at the centre.”
Last month, the retailer launched a new virtual experience on gaming platform Roblox to allow shoppers to discover new products and creators.
Walmart Discovered will spotlight over 300 community creators such as digital fashion designers over the next four months and allow them to monetise the sale of their virtual items.
