Discount retailer Wilko is poised to make its return to London this autumn, marking a significant milestone in its ambitious nationwide expansion, with plans to open a new store in Uxbridge, West London, as part of its strategy to re-establish its presence across the UK.
The new 30,000 square foot store will be located in The Pavilions Shopping Centre, occupying Wilko's former trading spot. This opening represents the seventh store launch since CDS Superstores acquired the Wilko brand, following successful openings in Exeter, Plymouth, Luton, Rotherham, St Albans, and Poole.
Alexander Simpkin, chief executive officer of CDS Superstores, which trades as The Range and Wilko, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion: "Our expansion is about bringing Wilko back to the heart of communities, providing quality and value in every corner of the UK. We've had a great reception from customers in our six locations to date, and from wilko.com shoppers, and we're thrilled to announce our reopening in Uxbridge, which also marks our return to Greater London too."
The Uxbridge store will offer an extended range of products, including health and beauty essentials, food, DIY supplies, garden equipment, and homewares. Additionally, it will feature a Click and Collect service, allowing customers to conveniently pick up online orders from wilko.com, which boasts over 100,000 items for sale.
This store launch is part of Wilko's ambitious five-year plan, which aims to see the brand return to hundreds of high street locations across the UK and, for the first time, expand into Northern Ireland. The expansion strategy reflects the company's commitment to providing affordable, quality products to communities nationwide.
To support these growth plans, CDS Superstores recently appointed Antony Darbyshire as its new head of property, tasked with driving the high street expansion.
The exact opening date for the Uxbridge store will be announced in the coming weeks, with the retailer promising to bring its signature blend of value and quality to West London shoppers. As Wilko continues its resurgence, it appears the brand is well on its way to reclaiming its position as a staple of British high streets.
