Amazon unlikely to introduce crypto payments, says chief exec

The chief executive of Amazon has said that the company is unlikely to introduce cryptocurrency payments.

“We’re not probably close to adding crypto as a payment mechanism in our retail business, but I do believe over time that you’ll see crypto become bigger,” Andy Jassy told CNBC in an interview.

The Amazon CEO, who said he is optimistic about cryptocurrencies but doesn’t own bitcoin himself, did say that he could see a possibility for the company to sell NFTs.

“I think it’s possible down the road on the platform,” he said to the news organisation.

According to CNBC, Amazon has shown interest in cryptocurrency in the past. Last year, it reported, the e-commerce giant was exploring adding a digital currency and blockchain expert to its payments team.
