Burberry revenue exceeds £3bn

Revenue at Burberry increased by 10 per cent on a reported basis to just over £3 billion in its latest financial year.

The company attributed strong performance to higher sales across its core outwear and leather goods categories.

Leather goods sales were up by 12 per cent for the year ended 1 April 2023 and increased by 15 per cent in the final quarter of the year.

Outwear sales jumped by seven per cent overall and by as much as 30 per cent in the fourth quarter.

"We have delivered a strong financial performance, supported by good progress in our core leather goods and outerwear categories, with revenue accelerating in the fourth quarter as growth rebounded in Mainland China," said Jonathan Akeroyd, chief executive, Burberry. "Having appointed Daniel Lee as our new Chief Creative Officer, we have refocused our brand aesthetic and brought his new creative vision to life with a campaign and runway show that have been very well received."

Akeroyd added:"At the same time, we have reorganised our supply chain, merchandising and digital teams under new leaders to drive our strategy forward."

The chief exec added that while the external environment remains uncertain, the business is confident it can reach its 2024 and medium-term targets.
