Co-op opens first London ‘on the go’ store

Co-op has announced the launch of its first London-based ‘on the go’ store.

The new store, which has opened in Kingston upon Thames, focuses on serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in several new formats, including meal deals, a hot food serve-over counter, coffee, pastries, pizza and, deli-inspired selections.

The Kingston store is the company's fourth 550 sq ft concept store following recent launches in Altrincham’s Stamford Quarter, Aylesbury, and Solihull High Street.

Co-op said the move takes cues from around the world to meet consumer demand for on-the-go 'food-for-now'.

Between 7am-7pm the new Kingston store is open to serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, with online delivery also available through Just Eat, Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

The company first announced plans for the new micro store format in the summer.

“The whole team is excited to launch our new concept store in Kingston where we are really looking forward to being part of the vibrant community, and welcoming members and customers into their new Co-op store," said Jane Wells, Co-op area operations manager. "Differing to our traditional convenience stores, whether working, shopping or socialising in the high street area, our new store is here to offer breakfast, lunch or dinner on-the-go.”

The new store format joins Co-op’s traditional convenience stores across the UK, and is one of 50 new or refurbished stores Co-op has revealed it is opening in November and December before Christmas.

Owned by over 6.9 million active member-owners, Co-op has more than 2,300 food stores, 800 funeral homes, and a wholesale business supplying around 8,000 additional outlets.

It employs 53,000 people, generating annual revenues of over £11 billion,
