DoorDash and Klarna partner to offer eat now, pay later service

Food delivery and takeaway company DoorDash, based in the US, has partnered with payment provider Klarna to offer flexible payment options, including a new ‘eat now, pay later’ service.

Due to launch in the coming months on the DoorDash website or app, the new service will allow DoorDash customers to access Klarna's range of payment options for groceries, retail purchases, and even the DashPass annual plan, a subscription service offered by DoorDash that provides various benefits, including reduced service and delivery fees.

At checkout, customers will see Klarna as an additional payment option, enabling them to select from different payment methods. Customers will be able to choose whether to pay in full, to pay in four equal, interest-free instalments, or to defer payments until a later date.

The retailer stated that this move will broaden the range of payment alternatives available to its customers when purchasing various items.

“As we expand DoorDash’s offerings—from groceries and beauty products to electronics and gifts—flexible payment options are essential to meeting our customers’ needs,” said Anand Subbarayan, head of money products at DoorDash.

“We’re delighted to partner with Klarna to enhance the convenience we offer, including flexible payment options for our DashPass Annual Plan, the most affordable way to order on DoorDash with added streaming and ride benefits at no extra cost.”

Earlier this month, Klarna filed relevent documentation with the US Securities and Exchange Commission ahead of a planned IPO that would see its ordinary shares listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The company is expected to list on a valuation of around $15 billion dollars.
