Holland & Barrett trials rapid in-store DNA test

Health and wellness retailer Holland & Barrett has rolled out a trial of rapid DNA testing.

Launched in partnership with DnaNudge, the cheek swab DNA test offers genetic insights which Holland & Barret said could lead to improved sleep and healthier skin.

The test, which delivers results securely to a customer’s smartphone in 20 minutes, is available at five Holland & Barrett’s stores including those in Chelmsford, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Holland & Barret said the test examines how quickly an individual can clear caffeine from their system, as well as the impact of oxidative stress on their skin. The test aims to teach customers how to protect their skin from premature aging as well as provide indicators for a healthy caffeine intake.

Customers can use the results of their DNA test to find product recommendations tailored to their genetic makeup from Holland & Barrett advisers on site.

“As a leading health and wellness retailer, Holland & Barrett is transforming to be a destination for wellness solutions that are rooted in science,” said Andrew Jones, head of format at Holland & Barrett. “We know that our customers are increasingly looking for personalised, advice to help positively manage their wellness, and we’re delighted to be bringing this cutting-edge technology for our customers to use to help them understand more about how they can positively impact their health through nutrition and lifestyle changes.”
