Nisa deploys cloud platform to cut energy usage

Nisa has partnered with technology company Simble to enable its retailers to better manage their energy consumption and cut costs.

The convenience store chain said SimbleSense, a cloud-based platform, allows retailers to gain insights into their energy consumption in real time and allow them to make informed decisions to improve energy efficiency.

The technology connects directly to energy meters and provides retailers with analytics on their energy consumption to highlight where energy is being wasted and which equipment needs to be upgraded.

Nisa claims the data the platform provides can help retailers negotiate better contracts with their utility providers. Additionally, users can set usage parameters and receive alerts if their energy consumption exceeds them.

During the three-month trial phase, one retailer saw a 31 per cent reduction in energy consumption and saved around £3,000 per month. The technology also revealed a defective energy meter leading to billing inaccuracies and highlighted inefficient fridge doors which lead to a 43 per cent reduction in energy use after adjustments were made.

“SimbleSense has exceeded our expectations in reducing energy consumption and costs while offering easy-to-understand real-time tracking,” said Tim Norton, trials manager at Nisa. “We are excited to make this service available to all our retailers to help them achieve similar benefits.”
