Subway hires new CEO

Subway has hired Jonathan Fitzpatrick as its new chief executive officer, effective 28 July.

Fitzpatrick brings more than two decades of experience to his new role, most recently serving as president and chief executive of automotive specialist Driven Brands, where he led a team to 17 consecutive quarters of same-store sales growth.

Prior to that, Fitzpatrick held a variety of management positions at Burger King, including executive vice president, chief brand and operations officer.

During his tenure with the company, Fitzpatrick led the largest menu overhaul in the brand's history, streamlined restaurant operations, and rethought the guest experience, modernising the restaurant's overall image.

Subway said Fitzpatrick will work closely with interim chief executive Carrie Walsh to ensure a seamless transition.

"I'm honoured to lead this iconic brand that has been serving guests around the world for 60 years," Fitzpatrick said.

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
