Superdrug festive sales jump 16%

Sales at health and beauty retailer Superdrug jumped by 16 per cent over the festive period compared to the same period of 2021.

The company said it had seen increased footfall throughout December, with average weekly transactions 19 per cent higher than in the previous December.

Sales of own brand products at Superdrug increased by 20 per cent and fragrances and cosmetics recorded the biggest sales week ever in the seven days before Christmas.

Superdrug said sales of cosmetics were back to levels similar to that of Christmas 2019, as consumers were once again allowed to socialise after the lifting of Covid restrictions.

In October, Superdrug said that it had seen an increase in Christmas gift sales as consumers stocked up early. Compared to the previous year, sales of Christmas gifts were up 219 per cent.

The retailer said it had continued to invest in stores, opening 11 new shops and refurbishing a further 59.

Commenting on the news, Peter Macnab, chief executive of Superdrug, said: “Our continued investment in stores, market-leading digital progression and innovation in Own Brand has driven increased sales and market share growth.”
