Tesco has launched a new section on its website to showcase British produce.
The supermarket, which claims to be British agriculture’s biggest customer, said the Best of British section will bring together over 500 products including locally produced items.
This will include fruit, vegetables and dairy products. Customers will also be able to access a range of recipes inspired by British cuisine.
In January this year, Aldi UK launched a Best of British section on its website and revealed that over 80 per cent of its sales came from British suppliers in 2023.
Tesco added that it has taken a number of measures to support British farmers including establishing sustainable farming groups and providing finance for those who want to switch to sustainable farming methods.
“Supporting British farmers, growers and suppliers remains critical to ensuring we have a robust food industry here in the UK, and we count ourselves as proud champions of British agriculture, striving to source produce from the UK wherever possible,” said Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s chief commercial officer. “Our customers share our love for British produce, and we want to do all we can to make it as easy to find as possible, no matter how they shop with us, so we’re thrilled to be launching our Best of British page on our groceries website, bringing together over 500 hundred quality, affordable British products to choose from.”
