Uber implements new payment system

Ride sharing service Uber has overhauled its payment system in partnership with Checkout.com.

Through the agreement, Checkout.com will provide acquiring and gateway services for Uber’s services on its platform across multiple markets worldwide.

Uber said it implemented the technology to combine global coverage with local expertise and support its expansion in the digital economy.

Through the partnership, Uber said it will leverage Checkout.com’s global and proprietary acquiring network, as well as advanced payment technologies designed to make transactions faster, safer, and more reliable.

Uber will also use AI-powered technology which uses real-time data from its global network to intelligently route transactions, reduce failures, and improve performance.

“Riders trust Uber to deliver a magical experience that just works, and that extends to how they pay," said Karl Hebert, VP of global commerce at Uber. “We rely on partners with reach and reliability as we continue to grow.”

Last month, Uber announced its food delivery arm Uber Eats had formed new partnerships in the US with grocery stores Citarella, Rouses Markets, Town and Country, Wild Fork, and Rosauers Supermarkets, as it seeks to boost partnerships with both national and local grocery stores.

These grocery stores are now available on the Uber Eats app, joining a network of over one million regional and national Uber partners which operate in around 12,000 cities worldwide, with the US being one of its most important markets.
