Airport retailer Dufry launches virtual makeup try on service

Global travel retailer Dufry has partnered with Perfect Corp to allow travels to virtually try on makeup products in airports around the world.

The service will be available at a number of airports including London Heathrow, Manchester and Barcelona. Brands included in the scheme include Benefit, Guerlain and Huda Beauty

Dufry said that travellers have limited time available for shopping but that the virtual try-on service, which uses augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI), can speed up the process and “lead to higher sales”.

The company added that travel retail shops often have a unique selection of products meaning that trying a product is essential.

“This AI and AR-powered technology forms a seamless part of the shopping journey for our passengers, helping them to easily choose the products that are perfect from them, as well as saving them time at the airport,” said Lee Adams, global digital smart store head at Dufry. “We are working with Perfect Corp. to continue rolling out this new technology across many more of the 75 countries where we operate, as well as exploring new projects for the future.”

Last week Maybelline announced that it has launched an app in Microsoft Teams allowing users to wear virtual makeup and try on different styles.

Users can choose from around 12 different makeup looks, with each including a breakdown of products used to allow people to recreate the virtual look in real life.
