Aldi signs delivery deal with AO

Aldi has signed a three year deal with AO World to get its Specialbuys range delivered by the online electricals retailer.

Though much of the range is already available to purchase online - alongside a range of wines and spirits - the new partnership will allow Aldi to offer delivery for larger products across the UK, with extended delivery options during the weekend.

David Barter, managing director of national IT at Aldi, said: “Our online Specialbuys are going from strength to strength, and this partnership with AO will allow us to offer customers even more options for our larger products that require home delivery.”

AO’s managing director of logistics David Ashwell added: “There’s no better stamp of approval than other retailers, like Aldi, wanting to partner with us to help them deliver exceptional service to their customers.”

The deal comes as Aldi posted an 18 per cent drop in profits for the year to 31 December 2018, despite sales rising 11 per cent to £11.3 billion.

It attributed the drop in profits to an ongoing investment in infrastructure, while pledging to invest £1 billion over the next two years to double its store estate around greater London.
