IATA and Outpayce partner to offer account-to-account payment options

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Outpayce have partnered to offer account-to-account payment options for airlines.

The move aims to enhance operational processes and payment speed for airlines while providing a more convenient option for travellers, who will be able to purchase tickets at a lower cost.

The collaboration allows airlines to accept payments via IATA Pay, a direct account-to-account payment method using Outpayce’s Xchange Payments Platform (XPP).

Currently present in over thirty countries, IATA Pay allows travellers to purchase their online tickets by directly debiting their bank accounts.

Payment systems that will be used to complete airline purchase around the world include India’s UPI, Brazil’s PIX, and the Netherlands’ iDEAL.

During the online purchase, customers will be asked to insert their bank account details or scan a QR code to authorise the transaction. At the checkout, funds will be taken directly form the user’s account using the banking infrastructure.

After the purchase is completed, IATA will then settle payments with airlines the following day.

IATA’s director financial settlement operations Juan Antonio Rodriguez said the growing trend of account-to-account payments will be able to provide a seamless experience for passengers and bring a better option for airlines to lower the cost of payment acceptance.

“Throuhg Outpayce, airlines using XPP can begin to accept IATA Pay while still benefitting from XPP’s powerful orchestration, analytics and reporting capabilities,” he added.
