PayPal has launched the Zettle Terminal, its Point of Sale (POS) device, in the UK.
The mobile point of sale (mPOS) solution is aimed at offering increased mobility for small businesses with its hand-held device.
The device launch comes after PayPal completed the acquisition of Swedish mobile payments company iZettle for $2.2 billion in 2019.
The terminal is able to manage sales, inventory, reporting and payments and does not require a second device to pair with.
The Zettle Terminal comes with a pre-loaded SIM card and its combined WiFi and cellular connectivity means that small businesses do not need a fixed check-out point.
The device is now available in the UK and will continue to roll-out across additional markets in Europe in 2021 and into 2022, and in the U.S. next year. In 2022, the Zettle Terminal will feature an integrated barcode scanner which would provide a seamless checkout for customers on the go.
PayPal has released the device as consumers shift to contactless cards and digital wallets, which are set to make up almost half (47 per cent) of all UK payments by the end of 2022, according to the Centre for Retail Research.
