Lidl announces new target sites for UK store expansion

Supermarket chain Lidl has shared a list of hundreds of locations across the UK where it hopes to open new stores.

The site requirements brochure lists hundreds of potential locations, ranging from city centres to small rural towns. Potential sites must be able to accommodate stores between 18,000 and 26,500 square feet, have room for at least 100 parking spaces, and be in prominent locations with easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow.

The company is offering a finders fee of 1.5 per cent of freehold value, or 10 per cent of first year rents for leaseholds, if individuals are able to provide a previously unknown site that leads to a store being built.

Earlier this month, Lidl announced it intended to open 50 new stores in the UK, part of a £600 million expansion plan in the country. It currently holds a 33-month streak as the fastest-growing bricks-and-mortar supermarket in the UK, per Worldpanel by Numerator data.
